Toumani Diabate comes from a long tradition of kora players. His father Sidiki was the first kora player to record a solo album for kora. He was also known to be an activist for culture in the French colonial days.

On the backside of the cover to Toumani’s first solo album, the story is told that Toumani is the only one playing and that it is recorded in one take. So fantastic was Toumani’s technique, already. Toumani has since played with everyone, recorded many albums and he can be heard in an incredible number of other artists’ albums. Recently he has recorded an album with his son Sidiki Jr. and they have been touring together. Isn’t that nice!?
